Elmhurst Teachers Council Vs. Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205: Pt. 3

Looks like the Teachers Union and the School Board have come to an agreement on a two-year contract.

This is good news; no strike. I hope they feel they got a fair deal.

I'm happy, if the teachers are happy.

What District 205 teachers make the 98,000 a year?

I'm sure it is almost exclusively upper level administrators. Though, based on the criteria listed, "The district's highest paid teachers, those with master's degrees, 40 additional credit hours and 18 years with the district, earn between $93,000 and $98,000, she said." I'll bet Mrs. Davis fits those requirments.

Do you remember a Mr. Burkter (sp?) from Sandberg?

Most teachers making those salaries are high school teachers who do extracurricular activities. I found out a few years ago that the highest paid teacher in Illinois as of 1998 or so was one of my teachers in high school. He taught PE, was the swimming coach and taught summer school and summer driver's ed. He must have worked 60 or more hours a week averaged over the year. I think he made nearly $120,000 a year.

Right after my first year as a teacher, I ran a search for my name on the internet. I found my name-- and annual salary-- on a website some right-winger had, claiming that teachers made too much money, and had posted the names and salaries of every teacher in Illinois-- our salaries are public record. I was working as a seventh grade social studies teacher on the west side of Chicago-- not fun job conditions-- for $28,000 a year. Without telling him who I was or why I was inquiring, I asked if I could have his salary to post to my website. He was incensed-- this was private information, he told me. I then told him who I was, told him my situation-- and job conditions-- and asked why he thought it was okay for him to post my name and salary.

I never got a response.

God's Own Suburb Megan. We could always use more good teachers, despite my support for them, they aren't all great.
